From the May Passive Income update, I had quite a list:
Fix the collapsed gate – A year ago, I paid my handyman to fix it. He made it sounded like it’s super complicated to removed all the bracket and put new one in. He put a brace over it, and call it good. Now the brackets top and bottom was spitted in half. Boy, oh boy!!
So, I gave Mr.W the honey-do list, and he wasn’t happy. heheheh LOL 🙂 But we got it done. Brand new bracket (after I thoroughly interrogated the HomeDepot guy on the whole process. LOL 🙂 And a couple of youtube video.
Toilet water tank leaked – This one was supposed to be an easy fix. Right? Get the kit, take out the old bolt, put new one in. But nawwww!! The bolt was completely oxidized. It was so rusted that the nut was glued on to the bolt. 30 minutes later, and still in the odd position. I had Mr.W came to rescue me. Another 30 minutes later, he said “why don’t you youtube it?”
There, the guy on youtube was holding his “saw-yaw” on his 1 minute video. LOL. Yes! I get to use my saw jaw for the first time. Well, I didn’t know how to put on a new blade. So, I took the whole thing to Lowes, had a guy put it in. Took it home. Sawed for 1 minute. Voila! the bolt came off, the tank wasn’t broken. And I was able to put on the bolt. But it was still a 2.5 hours ordeal counting 2 trips to Lowes.
Fix the Dryer – My tenant texted me that was dryer wasn’t starting. I was thinking it was a starter button. Mr.W is mad that I didn’t spend enough time with him. So I went to Lowes, trying to buy a brand new dryer. But the guy told me I had to buy a brand new electrical wire $30, and brand new dryer vent (I’ve just install new ones). I told him, “No!”. He told me “No!”. So, I went to the unit to check it out. It turned out it was a door sensor. It looked like an easy fix. I just didn’t have the part. I order the part. It didn’t come, but I had an extra dryer in the shop, I took the part out, installed it! Done! and Done!
Install Moulding on the new wall – Well, I was constructing a partition wall to make the unit into a 3-bedroom. It was pretty much done except for moulding and putting some shelves. I’m ordering a bookself from walmart.com for $26 and put it in the closet. I’ll also install the pole for hangers. Then, I can clean the apartment up, and listed.
Option: Since it’s so closed to the bike trail, I can advertise it as an Airbnb – $150-$200/night sleep up to 10 people.
Or just room for rent: $550 (1 bedroom), and $650 the other bedroom, then I get to keep 1 bedroom to store the bikes.
Talking about bikes. We’ve decided on the two bikes.
After trying out different bikes at the bike shop. Mr.W is too strong for us to get the same bike. He’ll get a little heavier bike from Performance Bikes, and I got mine from online at Bike Direct. I guess, Mr.W will have the “lexus” experience of customer services. and I can take my bike there to ask question since we’re buying some accessories from them. win-win situation.
Mr.W’s Bike – 2020 Fuji Jary – 2 x 9 (18 speed), coming at 24 pounds or 10.88kg, disc break
Mrs.W’s Bike – 2020 Motobecane – 3 x 10 (30 speeds), coming at … not yet 🙂 (But assuming less than 20 pounds per advertisement, plus they didn’t have the disc break).
Cost break down:
Mr.W bike $1100+65 taxes, but earning 30% points. So cost came down to $835. But we’d have to use the points for: 2 helmets, 2 bike shorts, maybe 2 bike shirt if we have extra points, as they charge mark-ups.
My bike listed for $999. No taxes.
I bought 2 cheap bottle holders on ebay for $6
Mr.W also upgrade his bar stem, that costs $35.
As of now, we’ve spent: $2105 for 2 bikes. I know it’s a lot for first time road bikes, but I felt like we’ll have these for a long long time. And we do want to make that 52 mile ride from Capital to Capital. It’d be awesome. I’m excited. My bike will come this Friday. So, I’ll be waiting at home for the delivery guy, so I can put that thing together. LOL 🙂

I went over the website, what he did was cool, park and ride … the bike. more economical. I’d have to say if I get stuck in D.C. traffic on a regular basis, I wouldn’t be a happy person. I’m always a “small town” kind of girl. LOL:)
Yeah, the bikes are huge upgrades for us. We had the $40 Walmart bikes that we bought used from craigslist. The break are not working properly. They’ve been rubbing off the wheel. The seats were uncomfrotable for Mr.W as the bikes were too short for him, so when we raise the seat, the seat turns at awkward angles.
I’m so frugal that I didn’t want to upgrade the bikes until I’m sure I’ll use it for a long time. hehehe LOL :). Mr.W has no problem spending the money, but he respects my wishes. heheh… But he couldn’t hold back teasing me by saying, his bike is not meeting the Carbon Emission Standard to be on the road. Poor guy! heheh…
I’ve been bike shopping for awhile, trying to learn different terms and such. I fixed my bike when I was little, but nowsaday, the gear, the shift, the drive train, the derailleur, seat post, bar handle, the geometry, really???!! REally???!!
On top of that, there metals – steel vs aluminum vs titanium, VS Carbon …
Then there the weight. Heck… the the styles, don’t get me started on the wheels.
There were so many things to get educated on. Mr.W understands that I need the education. hehe so he let me be. hehehe… but poor guy!
